The coronavirus epidemic is also a major challenge for the heads of care and educational institutions. “The biggest problem at the moment is doing homework,” says Sister Agnieszka Wieczorek, director of the Home for Children of Saint Joseph in Bolesławiec. Attempts to obtain computer equipment from companies or foundations came to nothing, so the institution’s management, in consultation with the children in its care, decided to purchase tablets with money saved from the 500+ benefit.

Surprisingly, children in care and educational institutions have only recently begun receiving the benefit in question. “And how are our children different from others? They aren’t,” comments Sister Agnieszka Wieczorek. “Fate has dealt them a hard blow, but why should they be treated differently?”

As the director herself admits, there is currently a great deal of work at the children’s home. All the more so because, due to the restrictions, the children’s caregivers have had to become all-round teachers. “Thank God, we have a yard with a playground. That helps us cope, because otherwise one could really go crazy,” adds Sister A. Wieczorek.
