In Bolesławiec, the Ceramic Brotherhood was established. The owners of more than twenty ceramics businesses declared their membership. Today, a solemn ceremony was held at the Town Hall with the participation of ceramicists and the city president. During the Festival of Ceramics, members of the Ceramic Brotherhood will lead the ceramics parade and will also receive the city keys from the authorities.
The idea and its implementation are the achievement of the new director of the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre – Ewa Lijewska. On IstotneInformacje.pl, we have already reported on the beginnings of this undertaking and presented the kontusz coats designed especially for ceramicists.
Ewa Lijewska was the first person to notice that the city of ceramics was not sufficiently highlighting the role of ceramics businesses and ceramicists. She undertook the task of bringing this community together. She had a good idea, and it was appreciated. Although she recalls that the first conversations with ceramicists and the response to the proposal to create a brotherhood met with little enthusiasm. Ceramicists, who had been absent in person from the Festival of Ceramics for so long and had only presented their products, needed time to consider the idea. As Lijewska recalls, her first appearance before the ceramic brotherhood ended in silence and a lack of reaction from the ceramicists. She was helped, mainly by his enthusiasm, by Bogusław Nowak. Thanks to his expressive speech, the ceramicists expressed interest in joining the brotherhood.
During today’s ceremony at the Town Hall, the ceramicists expressed positive opinions. Paweł Zwierz hopes that the establishment of the brotherhood will mark the beginning of broader cooperation among ceramicists. Technology, developing markets, exchanging information and technological innovations—cooperation in these areas would give the owner of Manufaktura a chance to compete with competitors arriving mainly from China.
The director of the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre persuaded the ceramics community to join the brotherhood and proposed having kontusz coats made. She also proposed that each ceramics business make a separate decorative chain. This would make it possible to showcase the wealth of patterns for which they are famous and by which the individual ceramics businesses distinguish themselves from one another. The result of her work was crowned by today’s ceremony.
Jarosław Rutyna, a member of the newly established brotherhood, emphasizes: “As ceramic producers, we are the cherry on the cake, if I may say so without being modest. Ceramics in Bolesławiec is the most distinctive industry, and the ceramics festival began with it.”
