In Bolesławiec, at 6 Mickiewicza Street, there is the Ronin Office. The company provides comprehensive services concerning compensation resulting from all kinds of random events. The office has been operating for 12 years. “We represent people injured in accidents before insurance companies and the Insurance Guarantee Fund. We help both accident victims and their families. We cooperate with law firms and doctors treating these people,” says Zbigniew Zawada, owner of the Ronin Office. “We are one of the few, if not the only, offices in the region that do not employ so-called ‘vultures.’ These people run around hospitals or cemeteries and persuade people to sign various agreements. People, often under the influence of emotions or medication, sign agreements that are extremely disadvantageous to them,” Zawada warns. Intermediaries obtain the personal data of injured people and their families in violation of the law. They acquire telephone numbers and harass injured people and their families at home. The Ronin Office very often receives reports that such practices also take place at the hospital in Bolesławiec.

Intermediaries promise help in obtaining compensation. This is unethical. “In reality, such companies do not provide any assistance. All they do is offer an agreement on unfavorable terms. Then they wait for the injured person to collect the necessary documents and send them to the company’s address, as well as find a doctor and deal with all other formalities themselves,” explains Zbigniew Zawada.

The injured person must pay such a company as much as 30%-40% + VAT (22%) of the compensation obtained. “Interestingly, the full amount of the compensation is paid into such a company’s account. The company deducts its commission and sends the remainder to the injured person. Moreover, external companies focus on a one-time claim. They provide no other assistance, such as seeking reimbursement for treatment, rehabilitation, care or travel costs. The amount of work performed by such a company is disproportionate to its remuneration,” Zbigniew Zawada emphasizes. A person assisted by the Ronin Office has their case handled from beginning to end. If someone has been in an accident, it is enough to call the Office. Services are provided at the Client’s location. Case assessment and initial advice are free of charge. “People often do not know that compensation may be claimed even when the perpetrator of an accident or collision has not been identified,” notes the owner of the Ronin Office.

The office helps collect documents and complete them correctly. Complete documentation is needed not only to receive compensation, but also when applying for rehabilitation benefits, sickness benefits, pensions or even in criminal proceedings, if the injured person wishes to act as an auxiliary prosecutor. The fee is a maximum of 15% including VAT, depending on the complexity of the case. Compensation money goes directly into the injured person’s account, and only then does the Ronin Office receive the previously agreed fee. It is also untrue, as dishonest intermediaries often claim, that compensation must be claimed shortly after an accident. If the claim results from a misdemeanor, the injured person has 3 years to seek compensation. If the claim results from a crime (e.g. a road accident), the period during which the injured person may seek compensation is 20 years.

Many residents of Bolesławiec have already seen the effectiveness and professionalism of the Ronin Office. According to Clients, Zbigniew Zawada demonstrates very high effectiveness in obtaining compensation. There are also frequent cases in which people injured in accidents and “taken advantage of” by external companies turn to the office at 6 Mickiewicza Street for help in canceling unfavorable agreements.

The case of the so-called Contracts of the Misfortune Hunters can be read about in two issues of Gazeta Wyborcza, dated July 20 and 21, 2009. The nationwide newspaper devoted two issues to publicizing the suspicious practices used by such companies. The articles appeared on the front pages. Below are links to the Gazeta Wyborcza articles:
