The Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Technology intends to introduce the so-called congestion tax, a tax on large-format stores, reports rp.pl. This type of solution, Minister Jadwiga Emilewicz stressed, is in operation, among other places, in Spain.

A member of Mateusz Morawiecki’s government explained on the “Gość Radia ZET” programme that this is a tax “not on turnover or the level of income earned, but on the difficulties that such a large-format store creates in the urban fabric”.

This concerns, for example, increased traffic jams and greater road investments that have to be built. “There is a conversion factor, an algorithm that is calculated and that can be imposed on stores,” the head of the ministry added.

The new tax could come into effect as early as the beginning of next year.
