Elżbieta Eisenblaetter came to Bolesławiec from Berlin. Five years ago, she began teaching flamenco at the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre. At first, she had only a few women interested in taking part. Today, her students number in the dozens. This year's Festival opened with a performance by girls who presented the flamenco dance Tango Rosa Maria. Elżbieta is very pleased with the youngest course participants. They are the future and proof that flamenco is extremely popular in Bolesławiec.
Interest in the folklore of Andalusian Gypsies is a way of life and a great passion for Elżbieta Eisenblaetter. Perhaps because flamenco is air, bread, life and love to her, it hurt her so much that this year she could not secure the Forum hall at a suitable time to organize her Festival on a real stage. This was despite the fact that she had been associated with the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre from the beginning. She worked there, expanded the course, which attracted more and more participants each year, paid for the hall and performed at events organized by the Centre. As a result of organizational changes, the only hall in Bolesławiec being fully booked, and a change in the arrival date of the invited guest, a famous flamenco dancer, Elżbieta and her students did not perform on the Forum stage this year.
Speaking with Iwona Bojko, head of the Cultural Centre's impresario and promotion department, we learned that the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre remains open to Elżbieta Eisenblaetter's initiatives and that, if she organizes further festivals in the future, the Forum hall is the best venue for them. We are also publishing the letter sent to Elżbieta Eisenblaetter by the management of the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre to explain the situation.
Bolesławiec, 3 March 2009
Dear Ms Elżbieta Eisenblätter
Re: termination of the contract for specific work (your letter of 2 March 2009)
Dear Madam,
In your letter, you state that the reason for termination is “..the cancellation by the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre of the planned Oriental Dance and Flamenco Festival on 21 March…”. Unfortunately, this wording is not true. The Festival was initially scheduled for 28 March this year; however, after replacing the dancer “Semira”, whom you had invited, with “Mariposa”, you asked for the possibility of organizing the event on 21 March. After a thorough analysis of the events calendar, this date proved impossible because a two-day charity event, “Tiry dla Tary”, was being organized in Bolesławiec on 20–21 March, with the final concert taking place on the Forum Stage on Saturday, 21 March. In an effort to solve the problem, we proposed another venue (Hotel Garden), reserved the hall, arranged for an additional sound engineer and also agreed to cover the organizational costs of an additional event in June this year in the Forum Hall. You did not accept any of our proposals…I therefore repeat the offer from the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre, once again:
- I propose organizing the Oriental Dance and Flamenco Festival on 21 March at another venue rented by the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre in Bolesławiec, for example at Hotel Garden, where the previous edition of the event was successfully held; all organizational and adaptation costs related to changing the venue, including the installation of the stage and lighting, will be covered by the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre
or
- I propose changing the event date to another suitable available date and organizing it on the Forum Stage at the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre.
