The gala was held on June 16 in the Forum cinema hall. For the eighth time, the Powiatowe Centrum Edukacji i Kształcenia Kadr honored both the most talented students and their teachers.
Among the invited guests were, among others, county governor Cezary Przybylski, deputy county governor Stanisław Chwojnicki, chairman of the County Council Karol Stasik, member of the Bolesławiec County Board Dariusz Kwaśniewski, deputy mayor of Bolesławiec Maciej Małkowski, chairwoman of the City Council Janina Piestrak-Babijczuk, councilor Eugeniusz Kowalski, and secretary of the Bolesławiec Rural Commune Andrzej Dutkowski.
During the 2008/2009 school year, nearly 5,000 students took part in PCEiKK competitions. During Tuesday’s ceremony, winners were honored in the following competitions: the 5th County Spelling Tournament, the 7th Bolesławiec Mathematics Competition, the 2nd County Polish Language Competition “Be Polite with Everyone and Warm with Those Close to You,” the 3rd County Polish Language Competition “On Familiar Terms with the Polish Language,” the 7th County Polish Language Competition “Heroes of Our Set Books,” the 8th County Polish Language Competition “Within the Circle of Literary Motifs – Water,” the County Art Knowledge Tournament, the 8th County Mathematics Competition “In the Land of Numbers,” the zDolny Ślązaczek and zDolny Ślązak Gimnazjalista competitions, and the 3rd County German Language Competition “Do You Know the German-Speaking Countries?”
“We all want our young people to have the best possible conditions for learning and to be able to develop their interests,” county governor Cezary Przybylski said during the gala. “Allowing students to compete and measure themselves against others gives them the motivation to improve their own results, as well as those of their class and school.”
As reported by Cezariusz Rudyk, director of PCEiKK, the County is seeking funding for the “Young Geniuses Club” project. A decision on whether the local government will receive money for additional classes in biology, chemistry, mathematics, computer science, and physics will be made at the end of August this year. “I hope our application will be positively reviewed,” Rudyk emphasized.
The detailed list of winners is available on the website of the Powiatowe Centrum Edukacji i Kształcenia Kadr.
