The first- and second-ranked candidates on the Sejm lists from the Legnica constituency visited Bolesławiec: Piotr Borys and Zofia Czernow, seventh on this list, Dorota Baranowska, as well as the Civic Coalition’s Senate candidate Władysław Kozakiewicz and Włodzimierz Bartkowiak from the Greens Party, in 24th (last) place on the list.

At a brief press conference, the candidates presented the Civic Coalition’s program. The coalition guarantees maintaining the 500+ benefit and does not want to raise the retirement age. Asked by us about TVP’s current activities, Piotr Borys replied that public media should be examined so that they do not become the propaganda mouthpiece of a single party. He provided no specifics on the matter.

Will they show the “Kozakiewicz gesture” to Law and Justice in the elections?

Older Poles remember how Władysław Kozakiewicz, the 1980 Olympic pole-vaulting champion, made an offensive gesture toward the Soviet crowd that was booing him—a gesture known as the “Kozakiewicz gesture” or, in a more colloquial expression, “such a dick as all of Poland.”

TVP broadcast the Olympics, and the athlete’s gesture was a bold expression of the feelings Poles held toward the USSR.

Will the Civic Coalition make such a gesture toward Law and Justice in these elections? We will find out on October 13.
