The incident occurred on Wednesday, July 31, after 9:00 p.m., at the railway crossing between Modła and Nowa Kuźnia (Gromadka municipality). A motorcyclist and his passenger collided with a passing train. The 26-year-old died at the scene, while firefighters provided the 22-year-old with qualified first aid.
Rail traffic on the ChojnówLegnica – Leszno Górne route was suspended.
A reader described the situation as follows:
Two boys were riding a dirt bike and, traveling at tremendous speed, hit the rear doors of the train. The boy who was driving, from what I know, died at the scene, while the passenger, in critical condition, was taken away by ambulance and will probably be transported to the hospital by helicopter. According to information from the police, the other boy has a 0% chance of survival. The police, fire services and prosecutor are at the scene.

It is now known that both participants in the incident were residents of Bolesławiec County. The younger of the two was transported by an air ambulance helicopter to a hospital in Wrocław. He underwent surgery in the morning.
