The first serious tremor occurred on Friday, July 5, at around 8:40 p.m. at the Rudna mine. Five people were injured.
After 10 p.m., KGHM reported that a second tremor had occurred at the Polkowice-Sieroszowice Mining Plant. One miner was missing. Before midnight, information emerged that he had died.

On the evening of July 5, a rockfall occurred at the Polkowice-Sieroszowice Mining Plant. As a result of his injuries, a 40-year-old employee of the Polkowice-Sieroszowice Mining Plant, an operator of self-propelled mining machinery, died despite an immediate rescue operation. He was a resident of Głogów. He left behind one child.
By decision of Management Board President Marcin Chludziński, three days of mourning were declared at all KGHM branches.
A commission will be appointed immediately to clarify all the circumstances of the accident.
