The incident occurred on Wednesday, 12 June. Exercises for allied forces, Noble Jump 19, were taking place at the training ground near Świętoszów (Osiecznica gmina). At the request of the Military Fire Protection Service Delegation, in addition to WSP units, a PSP platoon secured the exercises (units from the District Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Lubin, Lubań and Zgorzelec).
Firefighters from Bolesławiec:
After an observer spotted the fire, and in view of the unfavourable weather conditions, additional forces were dispatched (the “Bolesławiec” Firefighting Company of the Provincial Operational Reserve, which also includes volunteer fire service units from the Zgorzelec, Lubań and Lwówek counties, as well as a platoon from Legnica County and tanker trucks from Bolesławiec, Zgorzelec and Szprotawa).
Świętoszów Forest District sent three firefighting aircraft to help extinguish the fire. Soldiers also actively participated in the firefighting operations, using, among other equipment, heavy tracked machinery with ploughs.
Firefighters:
Because the nature of the terrain meant that unexploded ordnance could be present in the forest undergrowth, the operations were carried out mainly using aircraft, while firefighting vehicles conducted the operation on firebreaks and fire roads.
Approximately 15 hectares of forest undergrowth and part of the tree stand were burned.
