The incident occurred at around 4:00 p.m., right in the city center, just by the Market Square. The driver of an Audi with registration plates from Lubin was driving quickly along Zacisze Street and turned forcefully into the street behind the stationery shop. There, he hit a dog being walked on a leash by elderly people. The animal became entangled in the wheel together with the leash.
“The driver did not stop and kept driving. People ran after him, and children on the playground saw it. It was some kind of nightmare,” says a reader.
The animal did not survive.
“The elderly people were walking from the tunnel near Zacisze Street and crossing the road. They stepped onto the sidewalk, and he drove onto Kościelna Street from the direction of the bank. The dog was stepping onto the sidewalk, and the man clipped it. People were shouting; the man drove a little farther, then stopped and said it was not his fault, and drove away. And ‘kudos’ to our municipal police, because they arrived, looked around, and left. They told us to wait for the police. The dog lay there for over an hour,” writes another reader.
The matter was reported to the police. Officers were present at the scene and confirmed that the man had run over the dog. Documentation was prepared, and proceedings will be conducted.
