On Wednesday, 27 May, a City Council session was held, attended by Olgierd Hoffman, the owner of the plot on Jeleniogórska Street. Sopot-based H & S Construction, of which Hoffman is president, wants to build a Stokrotka supermarket on the site. The store is to have 150 parking spaces and a restaurant. Asked directly by councillors whether it would be McDonald's, the president replied that he “could not reveal the company's name, but it would be a McDrive”.
“We want to build a small shopping centre that will become a meeting place both for young people and for older people,” Hoffman said. The company is building similar facilities throughout Poland. The president of H & S Construction assured the councillors that they would be satisfied with their cooperation with his company.
Ultimately, the company plans to employ approximately 70 people. The investment will cost PLN 12 million. On Wednesday, the councillors—almost unanimously, with two abstentions—agreed that a new spatial development plan needed to be drawn up. The current plan provides that only industrial activity may take place on the plot on Jeleniogórska Street; the plan must include a service-related function. Work can begin only after the amendment to the plan has been adopted.
According to Hoffman's estimate, the formalities may take about a year. If the company receives the councillors' green light, the shopping centre will be built within 11 months.
