The arrangement will vary depending on the type of room. An interior designer from Kraków advises how to arrange windows in the bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, as well as the living room and children’s room.

Why is it worth paying attention to window arrangements?

Curtains, sheer curtains, blinds, vertical blinds and roller blinds perform important functions in our homes. Above all, they protect us from the sun and the curious looks of neighbours or passers-by (if we live on the ground floor), while also giving our rooms a unique character.

When choosing a particular window arrangement, we should take the character of the room into account – if it is a kitchen or bathroom, we must expect increased humidity. Its location is also important – in rooms facing the sunny side, it is worth investing in thicker curtains or roller blinds that provide better protection from light.

Window arrangements in the bedroom

The bedroom is a special room for us, as this is where we spend the night. We also realise that good sleep requires complete darkness. If we live in a large city, completely darkening the room can be difficult even after midnight. Yet even if we live in a remote area, the brightly shining moon can effectively disturb our sleep.

Thick sheer curtains and drapes can provide complete darkness. However, they have several disadvantages. Above all, they make the room appear optically smaller, which rules them out in the case of small bedrooms. What is more, they quickly become a breeding ground for dust and allergens, so they need to be washed frequently.

Installing special blackout roller blinds is becoming an increasingly popular solution in bedrooms. They are made of special materials that block out light. They are valued because, although practical, they take up little space and are also easy to maintain.

Living room windows through the eyes of an interior designer from Kraków

If we are fortunate enough to have a bathroom with windows and do not live in a remote area, it is clear that we need to cover the windows. For this purpose, it is worth using materials characterised by high moisture resistance. Roller blinds and pleated blinds work well on bathroom windows. We can also use Venetian blinds, provided that they are made of materials resistant to the damaging effects of moisture.

Ideas for kitchen windows

Contrary to appearances, kitchen windows are very demanding. The kitchen is a room with relatively high humidity. What is more, while cooking, the window arrangement can become dirty with food or grease. If we choose traditional curtains and sheer curtains, we must expect to wash them frequently. If we neglect hygiene, our arrangement will quickly turn yellow and absorb kitchen odours. In addition, high humidity can contribute to mould growth. Roman blinds have similar disadvantages. We can avoid such situations by using good ventilation, although we should remember that it can sometimes fail.

Venetian blinds work well in the kitchen – both wooden and metal ones. The disadvantage of this solution is that blinds can be rather troublesome to clean. For this reason, roller blinds seem to be a better idea, as they are much easier to keep clean.

For people who do not need to cover the entire kitchen window, we recommend so-called pleated blinds. These are small blinds that cover any part of the window. Thanks to them, we can protect ourselves from the sun or the looks of passers-by without cutting the room off from daylight.

How to arrange windows in a children’s room?

An interior designer from Kraków advises focusing equally on aesthetic and safety considerations when arranging windows in a children’s room. The windows should be colourful and bright, while the window arrangement must protect against the sun. It should be noted that a children’s room is a place where both day and night are spent. Daylight during the day and darkness at night will be provided by special day-and-night roller blinds. Curtains and sheer curtains in children’s rooms are not the best solution, as they are flammable and can be pulled down during play. In addition, they collect allergens. High-quality roller blinds, on the other hand, are easy to keep clean and are also more resistant to fire and moisture.
