By ten percent, councillors increased the monthly special allowance for the mayor. From July, Piotr Roman will receive the allowance at its maximum level: 40 percent of his basic salary and position allowance.

Yesterday’s decision by the councillors means that the mayor will earn PLN 10,230.40 gross per month. The mayor’s salary consists of the following components: basic salary – PLN 4,880, position allowance – PLN 1,800, seniority allowance – PLN 878.40, and the special allowance itself – PLN 2,672.

In the justification for the resolution increasing the allowance, the councillors write that (...) the argument in favour of such a solution is the fact that the entry into force on 1 July 2004 of Article 4 of the Act amending the Act on additional annual remuneration for employees of budgetary-sector units (...) deprives the Mayor this year of half of the so-called thirteenth salary, which significantly reduces total remuneration for 2004. Increasing the special allowance falls within the permissible limit of 40 percent and constitutes compensation for this shortfall (...).

In cities of a similar size to Bolesławiec, mayors’ salaries are above PLN 10,000.
