The opening of the match was very even. Both elevens clearly focused on defending their own penalty areas, so play mainly took place in the middle of the pitch. Initially, our team created more chances. In the 20th minute, Adrian Puzio found himself in a good position, but the young BKS player’s powerful shot was saved by the hosts’ goalkeeper. Shortly afterwards, Adrian Puzio struck well again, but once more without result. As time passed, Orkan began to gain the upper hand, and in the 36th minute the crossbar saved us from conceding. The hosts threatened our goal several more times, but fortunately Kacper Różnicki was on duty. We therefore went into the break level at 0–0.
Immediately after the break, the hosts launched an attack which, as it later turned out, shaped the entire match. In the 50th minute, Orkan took advantage of BKS’s poor build-up and went 1–0 ahead after a quick counterattack. Four minutes later, however, the score should already have been level. In a scramble in the hosts’ penalty area, a ball struck by Adrian Biały hit the crossbar and rebounded into the field. In the 60th minute, Mateusz Olesiński came close to equalising, but the ball deflected by our defender went just wide of the Orkan Szczedrzykowice goalpost. Until the end of the match, our players tried to equalise and launched all-out attacks. The hosts lay in wait for counterattacks, and one came in stoppage time. However, the Orkan striker was fouled in the penalty area and the referee awarded a penalty, which Adrian Wójcik converted to make the final score 2–0 to the hosts.
Our opening match of the spring competition did not go well, although our team’s performance gives us reason for optimism. BKS Bolesławiec played well, but if you fail to take the chances you create, you must later swallow the taste of defeat. Next week, we will have a chance to lift our spirits as our team travels to face Górnik Złotoryja.
