Among the 100 winners were two students from Janusz Kusociński Primary School No. 1 in Bolesławiec: Karolina Chlastawa and Julia Kunaszko.

Participants from four provinces were tasked with writing a letter about ways of spending their free time or their plans for the future. More than 12,000 students from 279 primary schools took part in the competition.

The project’s aim was to place the 100 most interesting entries in a time capsule and bury it on the grounds of the Royal Castle in Kraków. Along with the letters, the capsule contained, among other things, the competition winners’ family photographs, today’s newspapers and contemporary coins.

The capsule was placed 120 cm underground, which means it will be below the ground-freezing zone and should ensure safe conditions for the keepsakes sealed inside.

The capsule is scheduled to be opened in 2118. In his summary, Professor Jan Ostrowski, director of Wawel Royal Castle, stated:

It is a good idea to make children aware of how important a moment they are experiencing—the 100th anniversary of Poland’s independence.
