On Wednesday, 17 October, the official launch of the “Construction of an Operating Theatre” project took place at the county hospital in Bolesławiec. The first to speak was Bolesławiec County governor Karol Stasik: “In a moment, we will symbolically begin construction of the operating theatre at the Healthcare Centre in Bolesławiec. This will be an unusual investment, as it will begin with the demolition of the old building.”

The head of the Bolesławiec County Board also spoke, among other things, about the investment’s cost of PLN 14 million. The county has already allocated PLN 1.8 million—in two instalments—for the preparation of the documentation.

The first stage of the investment officially began on 17 October. Further stages will be carried out in the coming years. “This is a good start. We can see important local-government officials here, Marshal Cezary Przybylski and Mayor Piotr Roman. In the coming years, we will also ask them to dig into their pockets and support our hospital,” K. Stasik emphasised.

“This was the happiest day of the year for me,” said Tomasz Gabrysiak, Bolesławiec deputy county governor, “when a week ago I saw those fences and the crane appear at the construction site. I am very pleased that Director Adam Zdaniuk managed to find a good contractor. This is a difficult task nowadays. And we know it is a good contractor because it is the same company that built the Knowledge Centre in Bolesławiec.”

“The new operating theatre is essential,” T. Gabrysiak stressed. “It guarantees that our hospital will continue to exist and, above all, that it will develop. Two thousand operations and procedures are performed here today; the new theatre will allow this number to increase to 3,000.”

Adam Zdaniuk, head of the ZOZ in Bolesławiec:

I would like to thank you for your support so far. The amounts we received during the last term total hundreds of thousands. Without them, there would be no infectious diseases ward, no equipment for anaesthesiology and intensive care, the emergency department or other wards. I sincerely thank you for that.

Mayor Piotr Roman spoke about two years of cooperation between two local governments: Bolesławiec County and the Municipality of Bolesławiec; and about the three priorities for the municipal and county authorities:

  • county roads in the City of Ceramics (Ogrodowa, Polna, Dolne Młyny, Mostowa and Staszica streets have been renovated)
  • a new building for the special school. “There is no longer any threat,” the mayor noted. “The special school will finally have a building that meets the needs of children with disabilities”
  • the county hospital.

“By starting construction of the new operating theatre, we have completed this triad,” Piotr Roman concluded. “I hope we will continue to be able to support the Bolesławiec hospital. This item is in first place in our programme.”

The ZOZ director assures patients that they have no reason for concern. The investment will not interfere with the facility’s operations in any way; it will continue to work at full capacity throughout.
