On Friday, a press conference was held in the councillors’ hall with the participation of Zbigniew Mandziejewicz, a well-known footballer and coach. The athlete was welcomed and introduced by Deputy Mayor Maciej Małkowski. Dariusz Jośko, director of MOSiR, presented the footballer’s profile and career path. “Bolesławiec my city, or the Zbigniew Mandziejewicz and Friends Football Show” will take place on 30 and 31 May, during this year’s City Days. Zbigniew Mandziejewicz began his football career at BKS Bolesławiec. The well-known footballer still feels connected to Bolesławiec. “Bolesławiec is a beautiful city. My career began here, and I want to end it here,” he said during the conference.
The two-day event programme includes, among other things: a meeting between football stars and young people and city authorities, and training for young footballers under the supervision of former Poland internationals. There will also be a sports festival, competitions, auctions and matches involving BKS Bobrzanie teams. Zbigniew Mandziejewicz will donate rehabilitation equipment to the Municipal Rehabilitation Centre. A match will be played especially for football fans: Zbyszko’s Friends – Legia Warszawa Champions. During the two-day football celebration, football gadgets and memorabilia will be available for purchase. There will also be an auction of football shirts and balls bearing autographs. The money raised will be used to purchase equipment for the youngest footballers and to develop Bolesławiec’s football facilities. The event is being organised by MOSiR and the Municipality of Bolesławiec.
Zbigniew Mandziejewicz – footballer (defender, midfielder) and coach. He was born on 5 April 1962 in Lwówek Śląski. He began his football career at BKS Bolesławiec, where he played in the junior and then senior teams (until 1981). He subsequently played for Piast Iłowa and Czarni Żagań. From 1983 to 1993, he played for WKS Śląsk Wrocław, with which he won, among other things, the Polish Cup and Polish Super Cup (in 1987). From 1993, he played for Legia Warszawa. With this team, he won two Polish championship titles and two Polish Cup trophies. While playing for Legia, he appeared in the European Champions League. Legia reached the quarter-finals at the time. In 1996–1998, he played for two Austrian Bundesliga teams (Stayer and Altach). In the 1998–1999 season, he represented GKS Katowice.
In total, he played for 27 seasons during his football career. He spent 14 years in Poland’s top division. In the Ekstraklasa, he played 350 matches and scored 44 goals. He coached, among others, Lechia Zielona Góra, Gawin Królewska Wola and Chrobry Głogów. He holds a UEFA coaching licence. He is currently an entrepreneur and a member of the Legia Warszawa Champions League Football Association.
