The match of the first round of the Lower Silesian IV League between BKS Bolesławiec and Orkan Szczedrzykowice ended in a 1–2 (0–1) defeat. Adrian Kulesza scored our team’s goal. Despite the defeat, we can be proud of our players, because they performed really well against a strong opponent and fell only just short of earning points on Saturday.
Orkan Szczedrzykowice looked better in the first half. The BKS Bolesławiec players seemed nervous about their IV League debut, which led to a lot of imprecision and unnecessary turnovers from our team. Despite this, our team could have taken the lead. In the 14th minute, Marek Majka was played in with a good pass, but unfortunately the BKS striker’s shot went just wide of the visitors’ goal. In the 20th minute, Orkan Szczedrzykowice took advantage of a lapse in concentration in our defensive block and, through a goal by Marcin Ogórek, took a 1–0 lead. We were unable to respond to the opponent for the rest of the half, while Orkan, satisfied with its one-goal lead, calmly imposed its style of play on us. The score did not change before the break, and we went into the dressing room narrowly behind.
The second half belonged to BKS Bolesławiec, although Orkan was the first to score. In the 57th minute, Kamil Zawadzki beat Kacper Różnicki at the second attempt, making BKS Bolesławiec’s situation extremely difficult. From that moment on, however, our team dominated on the pitch and immediately set about making up the deficit. In the 66th minute, Eryk Kliwak signalled the start of the attacks, with his shot rebounding off the crossbar of Orkan Szczedrzykowice’s goal. A minute later, we could finally celebrate a goal. In the 67th minute, Adrian Kulesza rose to meet a well-delivered cross from Damian Puzio and headed the ball to reduce the deficit. From then on, we threw ourselves at the opponent and came close to scoring an equaliser. Unfortunately, in the 80th minute, the crossbar once again saved the visitors from conceding. Despite our constant attacks, we were unable to score again before the final whistle and ultimately lost 1–2.
Despite their dissatisfaction with the result, the large crowd gathered on Spółdzielcza could leave the stadium with their heads held high. Our IV League debut is now behind us. We clearly saw that if we fight and run, we can cause problems even for a higher-ranked opponent. Next week, once again on Spółdzielcza, we will host Górnik Złotoryja. On Wednesday, we face an away match in the first round of the district Polish Cup against LZS Łaziska (15 August, 5:00 p.m.).
