Ceramika Artystyczna – Spółdzielnia Rękodzieła Artystycznego is a partner of the FAI World Canopy Piloting Championships 2018 – the World Championships in canopy piloting. These prestigious championships are being held in Poland for the first time in history.

They are taking place at Szymanów Airport – Aeroklub Wrocławski. Bringing this event to Lower Silesia is a major organisational success. The United Arab Emirates were among those seeking to host it.

The competition is being contested by 120 athletes from 30 countries around the world. In total, the athletes will make 1,500 jumps, reaching speeds of up to 150 km/h upon landing.

Canopy piloting is a relatively young parachuting discipline. The jumpers exit the aircraft at an altitude of approximately 1,700–1,500 metres and deploy their parachutes earlier than usual, after around five seconds of free fall. During landing, they reach very high speeds and perform spectacular manoeuvres over a pool of water. The discipline primarily involves the ability to manoeuvre a parachute canopy at very high speed.

During the opening ceremony, spectators had the opportunity to admire the piloting skills of the Żelazny Aerobatic Team.

On Saturday, the most spectacular part of canopy piloting will take place – jumps in the FREESTYLE category.
