This coming Sunday (March 1), the first train from Bolesławiec to Dresden in five years will depart. It will run three times a day. This is the result of an agreement concluded by PKP Przewozy Regionalne with its German counterpart, DB Regio.
The Wrocław–Dresden services will be operated by German railcars, which can accommodate around 200 passengers (98 second-class seats, 16 first-class seats and 90 standing places). The train reaches a speed of 120 km/h. Passengers will reach the capital of Saxony in under two hours.
A one-person ticket on the Wrocław–Dresden route (round trip) costs 39 euros. However, a group of five can pay just 79 euros for a shared ticket.
Residents of Bolesławiec and the surrounding area will pay considerably less for the journey to Dresden thanks to the ZVON offer. The ZVON area covers the railway line between Görlitz and Grossharthau. It is therefore enough to purchase an additional ticket for the Grossharthau–Dresden section, which costs 6.60 euros (approximately PLN 30).
The Euro-Nysa ticket (PLN 20, or PLN 75 for five people) entitles passengers to travel on PKP Przewozy Regionalne trains from Bolesławiec to Görlitz. In Germany, passengers can use all means of transport operated by the Upper Lusatian and Lower Silesian Transport Association (ZVON). The ticket is valid throughout the ZVON area (Germany) and in the Liberec Region (Czech Republic).
Trains will depart from Bolesławiec at:
- 8:35 (arrival in Dresden at 10:32)
- 14:35 (arrival at 16:32)
- 19:35 (arrival at 21:32).
Trains from Dresden will depart at:
- 7:27 (arrival in Bolesławiec at 9:27)
- 13:27 (arrival at 15:27)
- 17:27 (arrival at 19:27).
The train will stop in Legnica, Chojnów, Bolesławiec, Węgliniec, Pieńsk, Zgorzelec, Goerlitz and Bautzen. A ticket for a PKP Przewozy Regionalne express train entitles passengers to travel on this train; a ticket for a PKP Intercity express train does not, including the “Sudety” service to or from Warsaw and the “Ślązak” service to or from Przemyśl. Please note: the Euro-Nysa ticket is valid exclusively on PKP Przewozy Regionalne express trains.
Will the launch of the new services lead to the discontinuation of local trains running between Wrocław and Görlitz? Following numerous protests, these trains will continue running until the end of March. What happens next is not yet known.
