A resident of Bolesławiec sent us a recording showing a woman walking through the closed barriers at the railway crossing on Modłowa Street in Bolesławiec.

We asked Bohdan Ząbek from the press team of PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. for comment. As it turns out, despite the PKP PLK information campaign Safe Crossing – “No to Risk!”, situations of this kind occur frequently. This year, a pedestrian was killed in similar circumstances in Wrocław. (He also crossed a railway crossing through closed barriers.)

Moreover, in 2018 there were 9 people struck while crossing the tracks in prohibited places (not at crossings). In as many as eight cases, the outcome was tragic.

As B. Ząbek points out, such behavior is playing with fire. All the more so because trains in Poland are traveling increasingly faster, are becoming more modern, and consequently—quieter.

And we may often think that they are still far away, that we will make it across in time… It is not worth risking your life to save a few minutes!
