Our editorial office received an email today in which a reader described a situation involving a lack of doctors:

There are no doctors in the ambulance service, primary healthcare or holiday care. Today, there was a report of a death in the town, and there was no one to go and certify the person's death.

Indeed, there is no doctor on duty today in night-time and holiday healthcare; only a nurse is on duty. However, if anyone needs medical advice, they will be seen in the Emergency Department.

“This role (of night-time and holiday care—editor's note) is supposed to be performed by the Emergency Department doctors. This is the case in many centres. We are in talks with the National Health Fund; perhaps we will change the contract so that the Emergency Department permanently handles holiday-care patients. As for the story concerning the death, presumably the person coordinating the matter did not complete it,” Jan Chałubiec, deputy director for medical services, told us.

The reader told us that this was not the first time the situation had occurred. Notifications about it were sent to the National Health Fund and our editorial office. The county authorities also know about the matter.
