Municipal guards were asked for help by a married couple who were worried about their mother, who was living in an allotment hut in catastrophic conditions.

The daughter’s two-year effort and attempts to persuade the elderly woman to move from the wooden hut to her apartment had been unsuccessful. The allotment hut was unsuitable for living in during the winter. It was heated with a makeshift stove and had neither utilities nor sanitary facilities.

None of the institutions approached by the concerned daughter was able to do anything, because the elderly woman did not consent to any assistance. She said that she was fine there and needed nothing.

Last week, municipal guards, accompanied by the daughter and son-in-law, went to the 71-year-old woman camping out in the hut. Unfortunately, their joint conversations did not produce the desired result. The woman declared that she would not leave the hut.

Since the woman had difficulty walking and had experienced cardiac problems in the past, the guards called an ambulance. Once again, the paramedics were unable to assess the woman’s health because she again refused any assistance.

However, the family and officers did not give up. On February 26, an on-site inspection was held in the presence of MOPS employees and the allotment gardens’ manager. Persuaded by everyone present, the elderly woman finally relented and went to a shelter.

After a short stay at the facility, she was taken by ambulance to hospital because of her poor health.
