“They have prevented us from entering and leaving freely,” complains Andrzej Ber, co-owner of a transport and construction company and a grocery wholesaler. It is all because of the change in traffic organization on Kościuszki Street. The Dolnośląska Służba Dróg i Kolei designated a new lane for turning left. What is intended to make access to the market easier is complicating life for entrepreneurs whose businesses are located on the opposite side of the street.
Anyone wishing to leave Andrzej Ber’s wholesaler and head toward the city center must first turn right and then look for a place where they can turn around. Drivers of heavy goods vehicles are experiencing even more problems with the new road markings. When turning, they break the rules—as they have to cross solid lines.
The new traffic organization is also causing problems for suppliers and customers traveling from the direction of Zielona Góra. To reach the businesses located opposite the hypermarket, they are forced to drive around the nearby roundabout.
Andrzej Ber intervened with the road administrator on this matter. He was told that the traffic organization had been changed out of concern for drivers’ safety.
“It is an inconvenience,” admits Jacek Baszczyk, deputy director for infrastructure maintenance at the Dolnośląska Służba Dróg i Kolei. —“But there was no other possibility.” The deputy director notes that the landowner had applied for access to the market to be created.
As he explains, the left-turn lane was created so that vehicles traveling from the direction of the roundabout would not impede traffic or block cars heading toward Zielona Góra. “The safety of road users is paramount,” he adds.
