An indictment against Bolesławiec resident Dominik K., who last October killed his 36-year-old mother’s partner in an apartment on Spokojna Street in Bolesławiec and stabbed his mother in the abdomen, has been filed with the District Court in Jelenia Góra. “The entire body of evidence gathered confirmed beyond any doubt that the defendant was responsible,” says Sebastian Woźniak, deputy head of the Bolesławiec District Prosecutor’s Office.
In our reports, including the article Did Dominik Deserve Life in Prison?, we described why the crime occurred. The situation in the boy’s home had been bad for a long time. His mother, Agnieszka K., and her partner, Rafał P., abused alcohol. The 19-year-old worked and studied, but his family squandered his money. On that fateful day, he learned that his mother had sold some of his belongings at a pawnshop. That was the final straw.
A large part of public opinion defended the boy. A campaign called “Free Dominik Kopć” was even launched.
“We examined a number of circumstances. Indeed, the defendant lived in difficult conditions,” admits the deputy district prosecutor. “The public campaign had no influence on the prosecutorial proceedings. My task was to examine the circumstances—both those in the defendant’s favor and those against him. The court will assess which of them will have a significant bearing on any sentence.”
Dominik could face life imprisonment.
