The Polish national team, which included Bolesławiec resident Martyna Czuchraj from the Gladiator club, competed in the August 2017 IFMA Youth Muaythai World Championships in Thailand. Martyna fought bravely for the championship title. Unfortunately, in the bout for a place in the final, the gladiator lost to a representative of the host nation. After three fiercely contested rounds and an intense exchange of punches and kicks, the judges declared the Thai fighter the winner. Despite the defeat, Martyna put up a very good fight, demonstrating resilience and fighting spirit.
Ultimately, the gladiator became the world’s third-ranked competitor. This is a great achievement, as well as a wonderful adventure for the young athlete. All the more so because, just before the championships, the entire Polish team took part in a sports camp on Koh Samui, at Lamai Muay Thai Camp, where they participated in several days of preparatory and acclimatization training. At the same time, well-known athlete Przemysław Saleta was staying and training on the island, and the young competitors had several interesting meetings with him. (It is worth adding that, apart from participating in the main tournament, Martyna competed in Wai Khru, a ritual dance competition, in which she won a second bronze medal.)
“Two bronze medals at such a prestigious event are a tremendous success for Martyna. In addition, the experience she gained is invaluable and will pay dividends in future competitions. During the event, the Bolesławiec resident proudly represented our country and, locally, our county. At the most important moments of the competition, she appeared with the flags of Poland and Powiat Bolesławiecki,” emphasizes Grzegorz Nazar, Martyna’s coach at the Gladiator club.
Ultimately, our national team won 2 silver and 3 bronze medals in the tournament, including Martyna Czuchraj’s two medals. Congratulations, especially to the Bolesławiec resident!
Powiat Bolesławiecki co-financed Martyna Czuchraj’s trip to the 2017 IFMA Youth Muaythai World Championships in Thailand.
