Many manufacturers offer us this kind of product, and we are happy to take advantage of it. On this basis, we can form our own opinion about individual more or less well-known brands. This does not change the fact that the cost of tires matters to us, and more expensive does not always mean better. Sometimes expensive tires perform just as well as cheaper ones in tests. This applies to the frequency of use as well as the same style of driving. Therefore, every driver should take into account the qualities indicated by the manufacturer and make a purchasing decision on precisely that basis. Unfortunately, there are drivers who treat buying tires rather superficially, or, colloquially speaking: a tire is just a tire.
It Is Not Just a Piece of Rubber
A tire is not just a piece of rubber that is necessary to use a vehicle. Nowadays, when production technology is so advanced, we can choose from a wide variety of tires. They may differ in many respects, but it is up to us to familiarize ourselves with their individual properties. It need not be emphasized that tires are among the most important elements of a car’s equipment. They have a huge impact on safety and driving comfort. Today, buying seems simple – summer tires, winter tires or all-season tires. Everything is within easy reach. Nevertheless, a wide selection is irrelevant to some people, as they buy only what they can afford, while for others this investment proves to be quite a challenge. The first thought is usually to buy tires from the best-known brands. Nevertheless, please note that tires from less renowned manufacturers may be no worse in quality than the most expensive ones. Therefore, it is not worth overpaying for a logo when the quality is comparably the same. We can choose the best tires for our car by following several principles.
What Should We Know?
Above all, we need to know the size. Every car model has a tire size recommended by the vehicle manufacturer. Of course, it is possible to buy wider or larger tires, but, as can be read in the specialist press, changes exceeding 2% of the tire size are not recommended. It is also worth remembering that going beyond the recommended specifications for reasons known to the driver—such as choosing a larger or wider tire—automatically increases its cost. This probably will not discourage fans of low-profile tires, but it is worth mentioning. Furthermore, not every driver covers tens of thousands of kilometers a year. Some drivers travel occasionally, and their annual mileage is a few thousand kilometers or even less. In such a case, one may consider whether, instead of buying two sets of tires for the respective seasons, it would be better to buy a single so-called all-season set. Different opinions can be found on this subject. Some specialists believe it is a good idea, while others assume that every summer or winter tire has specially developed technology that provides maximum safety during a given period. An all-season tire is a certain compromise, so anyone who is willing to compromise in motoring has that option.
Check the Rankings
The quality of individual tires can easily be checked online and in the specialist press. Rankings are usually prepared by research centers as well as companies examining the impact of individual vehicle components on the level of safety and driving comfort. Thanks to such information, it can be seen that not only tires from well-known brands stand out with the best parameters. Less well-known manufacturers also recommend tires whose characteristics can be at least satisfactory. A common phenomenon among Polish drivers is the search for cheap tires. As a result, they buy retreaded tires. It cannot be said that such decisions are sensible. Admittedly, these tires stand out for their lower price, as they can be bought for even several dozen zlotys apiece, but no one really knows what happened to the tire during its first life. A damaged casing or other internal damage may cause the tire to suddenly explode, even though at first glance we considered it new.
