The free helpline for children and young people was launched on 6 November. The initiative is organized by the Nobody’s Children Foundation. The helpline is open from Monday to Friday, from 12:00 to 20:00. People can call about various issues. Jadwiga Bobek, president of the Bolesławiec branch of the Children’s Friends Society, nevertheless appeals to callers to refrain from tasteless jokes and to call only when they really have a problem. “This is a serious helpline; there are people there who genuinely want to help,” says Jadwiga Bobek.

For seven years, a helpline—988—operated in Bolesławiec. Once, a man called who wanted to take his own life. “The psychologist conducted the conversation in such a way as to learn as much as possible about the man,” Jadwiga Bobek recounts. The man was rescued at the last moment.

Now the nationwide number 116 111 has been launched. “This is wonderful news. For years, we have all been working to establish a free number for abused children, children with problems, and parents who cannot cope with their child,” says the president of the Bolesławiec TPD. Since 116 111 is free, a child will be able to use their own mobile phone without burdening the household budget. What is more, the Foundation guarantees anonymity to everyone who calls.

Specialists from Warsaw will try to help children and young people from all over Poland. If the conversation proves insufficient, the professionals will advise them which institution to contact for help. “The calls will be answered by people who have been helping children for many years,” emphasizes the president of the Bolesławiec TPD.

In addition to the helpline for children and young people, the following numbers have also been launched: 116 000 (information about a missing child can be provided here) and 116 123 (a helpline for adults with emotional problems).
