The host of the International German Chess Championships for children under eight was once again the German town of Sebnitz. Poles were among the participants, especially talented juniors from Lower Silesia. Our region was represented by: Kacper Grela (TOP Bolesławiec), Agata Dwilewicz (ASSz Miedź Legnica), Adam Woźniak (MUKS MDK Śródmieście Wrocław), Karolina Kalinowska (KS Polonia Wrocław), Anna Karykowska (ASSz Miedź Legnica) and Maksymilian Bogut (KS Polanica). A total of 88 chess players from Poland, Hungary and Germany took part in the competition.
Last year, Kacper Grela won an excellent third place in Sebnitz. The level of this year's competition was very high. Before the final round, Kacper was leading the standings, with a half-point advantage over the second-placed player. Had he won, he would have claimed the championship title. In the event of a draw, the winner would be determined by the tiebreak score. The TOP Bolesławiec player had a chance to draw, but decided to take a risk. Unfortunately, he lost the game, but still finished in a high second place.
