On Tuesday, October 21, the first meeting in the Samorząd Cafe series took place. It was organized by Bolesławiec’s Civic Platform. For two hours, city and county councillors waited for Bolesławiec residents at the Liliput restaurant. They could have coffee and talk about infrastructure, healthcare, education and social issues.

Unfortunately, attendance was poor. Only six people came to the meeting. “This is one of the attempts to reach people. We need to analyze it. Indeed, there are only a few people, but we must be open to those who came,” Cezariusz Rudyk commented on the low interest in the meeting. The city councillor noted that a similar situation occurs during councillors’ office hours. “Residents do not come to meetings with councillors in the city. Perhaps the office-hour time is unsuitable, perhaps the location is unsuitable,” the councillor wondered. Interest in county councillors’ office hours is no better. “The situation is the same in the county,” Jadwiga Bobek noted.

In conversations with councillors, Bolesławiec residents raised problems that directly affect them. They talked about a lack of parking spaces in various parts of the city and poor road signage. Two students from Bolesławiec schools drew attention, among other things, to the lack of geographical and historical maps at I LO and the damaged windows at ZSOiZ on Komuny Paryskiej Street. “I have heard people say that such meetings are unnecessary. I believe they are necessary. Here, you can resolve your problems by talking to people involved in politics in the city,” stated Miłosz Stojko from I LO.

Despite the poor attendance, Civic Platform councillors do not intend to give up organizing further meetings. The councillors are considering how to attract people’s interest. “It will be better if we hold such meetings regularly. Then people will get used to them, one person will tell another, and they should come then,” Jadwiga Bobek said. The county councillor believes that people should come and talk about their problems. Only then is there a chance of solving them.
