On Saturday, October 25, a film marathon organized by Via Sudetica and the Poznań-based Stowarzyszenie Lepszy Świat will be held at Concordia (Orla Street). Film and documentary enthusiasts will have the opportunity to see six films:
- 4:00 p.m. “The Coca-Cola Kid” – a documentary depicting the operation of the Coca-Cola corporation in Colombia: the intimidation and beating of trade union activists and the killing of members of the Sinaltrainal trade union
- 5:20 p.m. “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised” – a documentary about the failed coup attempt aimed at overthrowing Venezuela’s incumbent president, Hugo Chavez. The film presents the background of the Bolivarian Revolution
- 7:00 p.m. “This Is What Democracy Looks Like” – the film presents the course of the 1999 World Trade Organization summit in Seattle, which was blocked by alter-globalization protests, as well as the brutal police repression suffered by the demonstrators
- 8:30 p.m. “An Inconvenient Truth” – Al Gore’s lecture on the greenhouse effect and the approaching climate catastrophe. After the documentary, there will be a meeting for people who want to take part in the international “Climate Now!” march (December 6 in Poznań)
- 10:40 p.m. “Black Gold”– a documentary about the coffee trade and an attempt to put the principles of Fair Trade into practice in Ethiopia. The film describes the poverty of Ethiopian farmers exploited by international corporations
- 12:25 a.m. “African Prostitutes” – a documentary about the trafficking of “human cargo” and the sexual exploitation of immigrant children in Western European societies (using France as an example). A shocking account of the sex trade’s operation on the Old Continent.
