According to data from the World Health Organization, more than 422 million adults worldwide live with diabetes, including 2.73 million in Poland. Many of them do not know that they have the disease at all. Unfortunately, children are also increasingly developing the disease, often without their parents being aware of it. – Worse still, diabetes often develops in the body without causing any symptoms. That is why it is extremely important to undergo regular tests to rule it out or monitor treatment, emphasizes physician Dorota Skwira-Rutkowska.
As part of the campaign organized by the Neuca dla Zdrowia Foundation, the diabetes bus will visit more than 100 locations across Poland, including Bolesławiec. It will be possible to check blood sugar levels. In addition, every patient will be able to measure their blood pressure and check their BMI, which can be used to assess the risk of overweight-related diseases.
– Obesity, which affects an increasing percentage of the entire population, is closely linked to the rapid rise in type 2 diabetes cases. It is the main risk factor for developing this disease. Interestingly, overweight affects women in Poland more often than men. The latest epidemiological studies indicate that it occurs in 35–45% of Polish women, while obesity – a more advanced condition – affects 22–25%, comments Bogusława Golus-Jankowska from the Neuca dla Zdrowia Foundation.
The diabetes bus will be stationed in Bolesławiec on February 28 at 11B Zygmunta Augusta Street, between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.. It will then head to Głogów. Participation in the examination is free of charge, but advance registration is required. Registration can be completed during the fourteen days before the scheduled examination at the same address where the tests will be carried out.
All details about the testing dates and locations can be found on the website of the Neuca dla Zdrowia Foundation.
