On 7 December, the District Court in Jelenia Góra issued a judgment in the case against a 35-year-old resident of Jelenia Góra, Adam Dz., who was accused of storing waste in Siedlęcin from January 2011 to July 2015—on land protected as part of the Bóbr Valley Landscape Park—in breach of applicable regulations and without a permit. The waste included construction debris, plumbing fixtures, furniture, plastic waste, car parts, fluorescent lamps, batteries, used oil, unsorted municipal waste and other materials. This could have significantly reduced water quality, degraded the soil, caused significant damage to plant and animal life, and posed a threat to human life and health.

The indictment in the case was filed with the court on 20 September. The court fully agreed with the prosecutor’s position and sentenced Dz. to one year in prison, suspended for three years. The Jelenia Góra resident will also have to pay a PLN 6,000 fine and PLN 10,000 in compensation to the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management.

Moreover, the court banned the 35-year-old from conducting business involving the collection, processing, transport and storage of waste for three years and ordered the defendant to clean up the property in Siedlęcin within six months of the judgment becoming final.

The convicted man was also ordered to pay the costs of the proceedings.
