We first encountered the work of Agata Koziarz from Bolesławiec in our newsroom when we were preparing a feature about the Bolesławiec thrash-metal band Error Code. It was Agata who took a promotional photo session of our thrash-metal musicians for their demo “2016”. In our opinion, the most memorable photographs from the session are those in which Krzysztof “Kriss” Wołoszyn strikes the snare drum (see below). “We used half a kilogram of flour for this photo,” Agata laughs. “Krzysiek looked like a miller.”
“I have always liked taking photographs, but I never had the time to devote myself to it completely. You know: home, children, work,” Agata Koziarz tells istotne.pl. In her work, Agata also deals with art—she paints Artistic Ceramics products.
Although she completed a photography course in Wrocław, she emphasizes that she mainly takes photographs for herself. “I don’t make money from it; I do it because I like playing with photography,” she says. She has had the opportunity to capture performances by bands such as the blues-rock legend Dżem, Poznań’s Izotop, Złe Psy (the new group formed by Andrzej Nowak of the iconic TSA), as well as Bolesławiec blues bands. It is no coincidence. Blues and rock are the music Agata likes most.
By the way, this is not Agata Koziarz’s only passion. The woman from Bolesławiec is also a motorcyclist and a member of Black Ladies, a group of motorcycle fans from across Poland and beyond whose rally is held every year at Grodziec Castle. Naturally, Agata takes photographs there as well. “Wherever I am, my phone and camera are my handy tools,” the photographer adds.
