Construction work will begin this year. The facility will become part of the Municipal School Complex No. 2 building complex at Jana Pawła II Street. The gymnasium was designed by a company from Łódź. The investment is worth more than PLN 6 700 000.
The lower part of the planned facility will contain changing rooms and a coaches’ room. The upper part will house a hall measuring more than 1 000 m², equipped, among other things, with telescopic folding stands, electronic scoreboards, basketball hoops, exercise ladders, handball goals and table-tennis tables.
Solar collectors will be installed on the school roof. Solar energy will be used to preheat domestic hot water.
The work is scheduled for completion in June 2010. “The construction of the gymnasium at MZS No. 2 is another investment developing the city’s sports infrastructure. In a few days, a newly built gymnasium for Gimnazjum No. 2 at Bielska Street will open. This year, we are planning a pilot launch of a polymer ice rink, and next year we plan to begin work on building a swimming pool at Rev. J. Popiełuszki Square,” Mayor Piotr Roman informs us. The artificial ice rink is to be located at Primary School No. 2 (Bankowa Street).
