During the November session of the Bolesławiec City Council, Platforma Samorządowa councillor Piotr Klasa, a veterinary surgeon, submitted an interpellation concerning dog urinals: “I would like to draw the mayor’s attention to the idea of installing dog urinals, known as ‘piesuars,’ in selected locations in Bolesławiec, following the example of other cities in Poland.”

He added: “The primary function of a dog urinal is to divert dogs’ attention from things they urinate on every day. Ideally, they would relieve themselves only in this designated place.”

How does a dog urinal work? As we read on polsatnews.pl, “specially hollowed-out openings where urine collects allow the scent left by previous users of the dog toilet to linger. The longer-lasting scent attracts other four-legged animals, which are more likely to choose this spot.”

Piotr Roman, responding to P. Klasa’s interpellation, recalled that a dog toilet is already operating in the city park on Parkowa Street. But he noted: “In general, I like the idea. Especially if it leads, for example, to less damage to plantings in the green areas. We can try installing one dog urinal on Parkowa.”
