A concert in Bolesławiec as part of Wratislavia Cantans is planned for September. At a press conference on the matter, we asked mayor Piotr Roman whether this performance would at least somewhat overshadow the failure associated with the blues-rock concert. Piotr Roman evaded the question: “Today we are talking about Wratislavia Cantans; blues has little to do with Wratislavia. Please ask the next question.” The response was instead given by Andrzej Kosendiak, the festival’s general director: “The contract does not provide for unsuccessful concerts.”
Kosendiak assured that the calibre of the performers was absolutely the highest. “There are no случай performers at this festival, and there will not be any in the future,” the general director argued.
On 7 September, the distinguished countertenor Daniel Taylor and the Wrocław Baroque Orchestra, conducted by Jarosław Thiel, will come to Bolesławiec. Residents of our city will have the opportunity—to attend free of charge—a concert composed of works by Georg Friedrich Händel, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help on Zamkowy Square.
The Wrocław Baroque Orchestra was founded two years ago. Andrzej Kosendiak claims that, in its field, it is the best orchestra in Poland. Paul McCreesh, the artistic director of Wratislavia Cantans, also speaks very highly of the Wrocław ensemble. “I am pleased that this orchestra will be available to hear in Bolesławiec,” Kosendiak adds.
The International Wratislavia Cantans Festival will begin on 4 September. This year’s edition will be devoted to British music. Twenty ensembles—around 800 artists from different parts of the world—will perform in 21 cities.
The municipal government will spend PLN 30,000 on organising the concert in Bolesławiec.
