On July 26, the First Bolesławiec Beerpong Championship was held. Fans of this unusual sport began gathering at Chata Myśliwska in the afternoon. Before the championship began, the competitors trained by throwing ping-pong balls into cups of water.
The actual competition began at 4:30 p.m. The teams competed against one another at three tables. “This is a new discipline that is little known in Poland and Europe. The game involves drinking beer and throwing ping-pong balls into cups,” Łukasz Niechajczyk, the event’s originator and co-organizer, told IstotneInformacje.pl Łukasz Niechajczyk.
The Bolesławiec resident caught the beerpong bug while staying in the United States. Some malicious observers might say that this kind of sport promotes alcoholism. Łukasz Niechajczyk absolutely disagrees with this claim. “At various festivals, people drink more beer and nobody calls it the promotion of alcoholism,” he points out. “It is simply good fun and a way to spend time pleasantly,” he adds.
The competition lasted until 10 p.m. Szubster Team became the tournament champion. Ping Pong Kings won the runner-up title. Buratino came third. “It is difficult to hit the target; drinking beer is much easier. My teammate hits the target, and I am good at drinking the beer, so everything is fine,” Marek from Buratino told us Marek after the first round of the competition. “The level is not very high yet,” noted Tomasz from Wrocław’s PH Squad. In his opinion, however, beerpong will gradually become increasingly popular in our country. “In Las Vegas, players compete for hundreds of thousands of dollars,” he added.
A total of 12 two-person teams with intriguing names competed in the First Bolesławiec Beerpong Championship: PH Squad, Funky Ghetto, Szubster Team, Bronkersi, Gołda Team, Buratino, qrDe Skuat, Mix Z, Kanapka Skład, Nokałt, Kozak Team and Ping Pong Kings. In October, beerpong championships will be held in Poznań and Wrocław.
