According to investigators, Irena D., a city councillor, provided financial advice despite lacking the necessary authorisation. Due to the low social harm of the offence, the Bolesławiec District Prosecutor’s Office asked the court to conditionally discontinue the case. The accused would have to pay PLN 4,000 to the Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Dzieci. The decision now rests with the court.
Let us recall: on 3 June, we wrote that Józef Burniak of SLD would lose his councillor’s mandate. We reported that electoral law clearly states that people against whom a final judgment conditionally discontinuing criminal proceedings has been issued are not eligible to stand for election, and that the loss of eligibility is equivalent to the expiry of the mandate.
Councillor Irena D. may face similar consequences. If both lose their mandates, Burniak’s seat will be taken by Lesław Śliwko, and D.’s by Henryk Woś.
The accused did not want to comment on the charges.
