Krzysztof Kozicki, who attends Primary School No. 1 in Bolesławiec, dedicated his competition project to his hometown of Kruszyn. His multimedia work won first place in successive stages of the competition: school, county and provincial. This is a great achievement, especially since—as Dariusz Kunaszko, a historian from Primary School No. 1, emphasizes—the jurors did not take the authors’ ages into account when assessing multimedia works.

Thanks to his victory at the provincial level, the boy has a strong chance of winning the main prize in this year’s edition of “Getting to Know Our Homeland.” “We are hoping for success at the national stage,” admits Dariusz Kunaszko. “Krzysiek’s example confirms that the school is developing in the right direction,” adds Kornel Filipowicz, headmaster of Primary School No. 1, the only institution in Bolesławiec to receive the Certificate of a School Supporting Talents.

“I started collecting information. I used guidebooks and the Internet. I talked to older residents of Kruszyn and to the priest,” Krzysztof Kozicki recounts about creating the award-winning work. The talented student admits that the history of his hometown is fascinating. Through his research, he discovered, among other things, that a battle between Napoleonic troops and Prussian-Russian forces took place near Kruszyn.

Krzysztof is interested in history. He does not rule out writing about the history of other places one day. The young resident of Kruszyn has already achieved a great deal. He was the only contestant from Bolesławiec County to be among the finalists of the zDolny Ślązaczek competition. He speaks modestly about qualifying for the national stage of “Getting to Know Our Homeland”: “It’s a very big success; I’ve never got this far before.”
