The European Union family already has 27 members. On 1 May 2008, Poland will celebrate the fourth anniversary of its accession to the EU. On this occasion, Lidia Geringer de Oedenberg encourages people to take part in the “Portrait of the European Family” competition. The authors of the most interesting entries will travel to the European Parliament, and all the awarded portraits will be displayed at an exhibition organised in connection with Europe Day celebrations on 9 May 2008.
The European Union dynasty was founded by six countries. Over time, the family grew, and it now has 27 members. As in every family, it includes grandparents (the founders of the dynasty), as well as older children, younger children and the very little ones. There are large and small countries, rich and poor, from the south and north of the continent. They profess different religions and have different traditions, clothing, cuisines and types of beauty. They differ from one another, but are united by common ideas and the desire to be together. Create a portrait of the EU family in poster format (B1). Draw, paint, embroider, photograph, make a collage or a paper cut-out—in short, the form and means are entirely up to you. Just let your imagination run free. The organisers are waiting for interesting and innovative ideas!
The competition is open to everyone who has not yet visited the European Parliament at the invitation of Lidia Geringer de Oedenberg and who is at least 16 years old. Entries, necessarily accompanied by consent to the processing of personal data, will be accepted until 1 April.
