The first snow has fallen in the Karkonosze Mountains. There is already 14 cm of snow on Śnieżka, while the snow cover on Szrenica is 5 cm thick.
These are not yet suitable conditions for skiing, nor are they good conditions for hiking. Strong winds are blowing in the higher parts of the mountains, and dense fog prevails. On Monday, all ski lifts were closed because of the wind. According to GOPR rescuers, only the hiking trails in the lower parts of the mountains and in mountain towns are safe. On Monday, temperatures there were above zero and visibility was good. The situation is different high in the mountains, where the ground beneath the snow is frozen and icy.
