Bolesławiec neurologist Mariusz Ch., who was charged with accepting bribes, may return to work—that was the decision issued by a judge from the Labour Court in Bolesławiec. The decision is bizarre, considering that the doctor was caught during a police sting operation. However, in the opinion of the Bolesławiec judge, this was insufficient grounds to send the dishonest neurologist to prison.
After the enormous bribes accepted by the neurologist from healthy patients seeking disability pensions were uncovered, hospital director Jan Kaczmarkiewicz decided to dismiss him on disciplinary grounds. The evidence of corruption seemed obvious. As it turns out, not to the court. While in custody, Mariusz Ch. appealed to the Labour Court and won. At the hearing held in his absence, the court even awarded him PLN 20,000 in compensation.
The Bolesławiec judge’s decision has sparked controversy. As Gazeta Wyborcza reports, the President of the Regional Court in Jelenia Góra will examine the judge’s decision more closely and check whether it resulted from an error.
