At the end of September, the 17th Lower Silesian Honey and Wine Festival took place in Przemków. During the festival, the competition for the Model Apiary of Lower Silesia, covering the Jelenia Góra and Legnica regions, was decided. The main aim of the competition is to increase the bee population and improve the health and hygiene of existing apiaries and beekeeping farms.
The committee (comprising Waldemar Kudła from the Beekeepers’ Association of the Legnica Region, Małgorzata Stempniak from the Lower Silesian Agricultural Advisory Centre, and Patryk Waloszczyk from the Regional Beekeepers’ Association in Jelenia Góra) recognized Andrzej Niewiadomy’s apiary as the best in Lower Silesia.
The winner, who has operated his apiary since 1998 in Bolesławiec County, received a gold medal and material prizes funded by the Bolesławiec County Board, the Wrocław Voivodeship Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, and the Lower Silesian Chamber of Agriculture. Moreover, the winner of first place received the travelling pennant of the Model Apiary of Lower Silesia.
As Andrzej Niewiadomy says, a long time ago a friend persuaded him to help with the bees and… it became his passion and way of life. As the former president of the District Beekeepers’ Circle in Bolesławiec, he rebuilt the organizational structure of the Circle together with his colleagues, raising money, among other things, for a banner. His wife helps him work at the apiary. “The apiary by a forest stream is our gem,” says the winner. “Our hardworking bees bring us delicious spring multifloral, acacia and linden honey.”
“I am proud that the care you put into obtaining beekeeping products, as well as the apiary’s aesthetics and appearance, give you so much satisfaction while also promoting our Bolesławiec County,” said Bolesławiec deputy starost Marian Haniszewski. “I am also pleased that the distinctions received by Zbigniew Karp from Nowa and Józef Gumięga from Brzeźnik represent another county-level success.”
