The trial of 47-year-old Mariusz Ch. ended on 20 April 2007. The prosecutor's office accused him of corruption. It was established that in 1999, conscript Norbert S. went to see the doctor. In exchange for a bribe of approximately PLN 200, the department head issued the conscript a false medical certificate stating that he was unfit for military service. The investigation also showed that in 2000, Mariusz Ch. accepted money from a woman who had asked him to admit her mother to the neurology department. In 2004, he allegedly accepted a PLN 1,000 bribe and a bottle of alcohol from a police officer. In return for these "gifts," he prepared fictitious medical documentation enabling the officer to apply for a disability pension. That same year, the department head received a laptop worth more than PLN 4,000 from a representative of a pharmaceutical company. He accepted it after promising that he would prescribe his patients a medicine produced by that company. These are, moreover, only some of the findings of the Jelenia Góra Regional Prosecutor's Office.
Mariusz Ch. pleaded not guilty. Nevertheless, the Jelenia Góra Regional Court sentenced the former department head to two years' imprisonment suspended for five years, a fine of PLN 108,000, and a three-year ban on practising his profession. The judgment is not final. The regional prosecutor requested a written statement of reasons and had sought three and a half years of unconditional imprisonment.
