Grzegorz S. has been charged, as a repeat offender, with the crime of raping Katarzyna D. with particular cruelty, robbing her and making criminal threats against her in order to influence her future testimony.
It was established that the incident took place on 6 April in Jelenia Góra. The perpetrator was 33-year-old Grzegorz S., a resident of the city, and the victim was a 23-year-old woman whom he met by chance. During the incident, the victim was not under the influence of narcotic or psychotropic substances, while amphetamine and methamphetamine were detected in the suspect’s blood.
When questioned as a suspect, Grzegorz S. denied committing the alleged acts and refused to give explanations.
At the request of the district prosecutor, the District Court in Jelenia Góra ordered pre-trial detention, which was subsequently extended by the Regional Court in Jelenia Góra until 5 October 2016.
During the investigation, Grzegorz S. underwent sexological examinations as well as examinations by expert psychiatrists and a psychologist. The expert psychiatrists concluded that, at the time of the alleged offenses, S. had full capacity to understand their significance and control his conduct. At the same time, they stated that, in their opinion, due to the diagnosed personality disorders and the repeated commission of a sexual offense, there was a high risk that he would commit similar prohibited acts again.
Grzegorz S. had previously been convicted many times, and committed the alleged acts as a repeat offender, less than four months after leaving prison.
The suspect faces up to 12 years in prison. It should be noted that, due to the nature and circumstances of the acts charged against the defendant, and with the victim’s welfare in mind, on 5 July this year the prosecutor sent the Regional Court in Jelenia Góra, together with the filed indictment, a motion to exclude the public from the entire main trial.
