The mayor, responding to councillor Andrzej Żuk’s interpellation concerning Łukasiewicza Street, said: “I agree that this street requires more thorough modernisation, except that we are still looking for an investor for Popiełuszko Square.”

“Bolesławiec urgently needs a hotel at this point,” said Piotr Roman. “The city will not build one because it cannot; legal regulations do not allow it. And there are increasingly more voices from tour operators, especially at the tourism fair in Berlin, which we try to attend in order to promote the Ceramics Festival and other city events. The tour operators say: we know Bolesławiec; you are an attractive city. We know your events. We could bring you one or two coachloads of tourists a week, but you do not have a hotel. We reply: all right, but we have wonderful guesthouses. The tour operators respond: if we bring two coachloads of tourists, we have to accommodate them all in one place.”

“Bolesławiec needs a hotel with rooms for at least one hundred people,” P. Roman continued. “Our main proposal, though not the only one, is Popiełuszko Square. We designed Orka in such a way that it has a blank wall, which makes it possible to add a hotel directly onto the swimming pool complex. Orka will benefit financially because there will be more customers, while the hotel itself will have a higher category.”

The mayor added that hotel chains prioritise either large cities or places with very high tourist appeal. Whether a hotel will be built at Popiełuszko Square remains unknown for now. What do you think of the idea? We invite you to discuss it and take part in our poll.
