On these days, we are putting the story “Ardennes” on the big screen, but do not associate this title with the famous battle from the Second World War. It is the story of two outlaw brothers. The story of a botched robbery during which one brother manages to escape, while the other is caught. After serving four years in prison in Kenneth, he is released and wants to reclaim his life. It turns out, however, that much has changed outside during that time. This is also true of his brother’s life and that of his former girlfriend, Sylvie. The film was directed by Robin Pront and, if we had to classify his work somehow, we would call it a drama. No, we are not referring to its artistic level, as we would not dare judge that, but to its genre. The lights go down for “Ardennes” at 6:01 p.m. through Wednesday inclusive. Tickets cost PLN 11.
The winter holidays and cinema are not all that will be happening this week at 1 Parkowa Street. Friday looks particularly interesting. On that day, the Municipal Public Library is organizing a meeting with Jerzy Zięba. Jerzy Zięba is undoubtedly a charismatic and perhaps the most popular promoter of natural medicine in Poland today. He is a declared supporter of treatment without artificially synthesized pharmaceuticals—in other words, therapy based exclusively on products occurring in nature and not subjected to extensive processing that changes their properties. The meeting begins at 5 p.m. But be warned
- admission is only possible upon presentation of a ticket (places are limited), which can be collected from the library at 1 Bohaterów Getta Street (the lending desk on the ground floor).
- we do not know whether any are still available :)
As a consolation to those who are disappointed, we have an alternative invitation for Friday. We will be pleased to see you at 5 p.m. in our gallery for the opening of an exhibition by Jacek Żbikowski. Born in Gdańsk and associated with the Coast’s artistic community, this artist works in graphic design and painting. For several years, he ran a company producing visual advertising; he also created theatrical sets, including at the Dramatic Theatre in Gdynia and Teatr Wybrzeże in Gdańsk. His paintings are held in private collections in Poland and abroad. Now the artist’s works can also be admired in Zgorzelec.
We would also like to invite everyone to join us on Sunday. It will be an extraordinary Sunday! On this day (14 February), anyone will be able to come to MDK and read their favorite love poem. Although one may not recognize Valentine’s Day as celebrated on this date, if we call it Lovers’ Day in Polish, it becomes an excellent opportunity to talk about love and share one’s favorite stanzas about passionate feelings with others. The featured poems will be works by Halina Poświatowska and Jonasz Kofta, prepared by young people attending MDK’s theatre classes. But absolutely anyone can come and present their favorite poem! It starts at 4 p.m. In addition to poetry and prose excerpts, the program also includes coffee and cookies. Admission is free!
