The competition was organized by the Association for the Development of the Bracia Śniadeccy Secondary School in Zgorzelec, in cooperation with the Faculty of Chemistry of Wrocław University of Technology, the Didactic Section of the Wrocław branch of the Polish Chemical Society, and the Association for Humanistic Ecology “EKOS”. The event was held under the patronage of the Zgorzelec County governor, the head of the Secondary School, and the head of the Non-Public Łużyckie Lower Secondary School in Zgorzelec.

Eighteen students took part in the competition, representing five lower secondary schools from Zgorzelec County. The competition committee consisted of:

  • MA Danuta Serafińska (head of the Bracia Śniadeccy Secondary School in Zgorzelec)
  • MA Krystyna Gans, chairwoman (Didactic Section of the Wrocław branch of the Polish Chemical Society and the Association for Humanistic Ecology EKOS)
  • PhD Krystyna Chmieleńska (Department of Chemistry Methodology, University of Wrocław)
  • PhD Mariola Kuczer (Department of Chemistry Methodology, University of Wrocław)
  • MEng Zbigniew Adamski (Department of Chemical Metallurgy, Faculty of Chemistry, Wrocław University of Technology)
  • MA Renata Rak (chemistry teacher at the Bracia Śniadeccy Secondary School in Zgorzelec).

The competition consisted of two stages. In the first stage, all participants completed a written test lasting 90 minutes. After the competition committee checked the results, ten participants qualified for the second stage. Following a break, they completed laboratory tasks, which lasted 60 minutes. The committee summarized both stages and announced the final results:

  • 1st place – Oliwia Siwiela, a student at the Non-Public Łużyckie Lower Secondary School in Zgorzelec
  • 2nd place – Katarzyna Pawłowicz, a student at Lower Secondary School No. 1 in Bogatynia
  • 3rd place – Mateusz Milewski, a student at Lower Secondary School No. 1 in Bogatynia.

The competition was held at a very high level, and the participants demonstrated excellent knowledge of chemistry.

“We congratulate the winners and wish them success in their future chemistry challenges at the competition that will take place in Wrocław in March this year,” the organizers said.

Last year’s first-place winner, Barbara Grzeszczuk, a first-year student at the Bracia Śniadeccy Secondary School, attends chemistry classes at the University of Wrocław and will also participate in a forum for chemists. She has already published her first “scientific” paper.
